Knee Pain

Admin 10-12-2023

Knee Pain is one of the most common problems that we see at Relive Physiotherapy in Chester. All sorts of people get knee pain, there is no typical profile, although people who do sport are more likely to get knee injuries due to the nature of what they are doing.

We hate seeing people in pain, but we do love treating knees. The reason for this is that the knee is so complicated and there are so many things that can go wrong with it that it is a Physiotherapist’s dream! You can see 10 people with knee pain and the causes and conditions can all be different.

When you injure your knee, your daily life will change in ways that you can’t even imagine. You will start to overcompensate and try to protect your knee by changing the way that you do things. This will lead to other problems, so this is not a long-term solution.

The knee makes activities such as walking or running, sitting or climbing the stairs so much easier. You don’t realise how much work your knee does on a daily basis until you are injured and it reminds you constantly.

Knee Pain is a warning sign. It is your body’s way of telling you that there is a problem and that you need to do something to treat it. Ignore it at your peril.

You would be surprised by the number of people who think that a bit of rest will make it all go away. Or that taking pain killers will solve the problem. It does get rid of the pain, but as soon as you stop the painkillers, the pain comes back and the problem is still there.

Runners are the worst for this. They train through their injuries and risk making their problems worse. They end up protecting the knee so well that often they have secondary injuries that could have been avoided if they had come for treatment.

We often hear about professional athletes who have a knee injury and are forced onto the treatment table for anything from a few weeks for a minor injury up to 9 months for a Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear.

So what do you do if you have a knee injury? Come to the Best Physiotherapy Clinic in Chester, Relive Physiotherapy for your knee pain! Delay and you will pay (in terms of pain and recovery time).

When you come to see us, we will examine your knee and do a number of simple tests to narrow down the type of injury you have before telling you the diagnosis. From the diagnosis we will look at your level of pain and recommend the best treatment for you to speed up your recovery time.

We will use a mixture of hands-on therapy, ultrasound and exercise. Depending on the injury and the length of time that you have had it, we may recommend Ultrasound Treatment or a Steroid Injection.

Exercises are so important in your recovery as they will help to strengthen not only the knee, but also the muscles around the knee. A weakness in these muscles might be responsible for the original injury and any further weakness might slow down your recovery or cause the injury to return.

Doing exercises that you find on the internet is good if you select the right ones, do them in the right order and at the right time. Unfortunately, they are very rarely labelled exactly what they are for, they just come under the generic ‘knee exercises’.

If you imagine you have an injury on the outside of your knee, you might inadvertently choose exercises that strengthen the inside of your knee, which will lead to a bigger imbalance and make your injury worse.

It’s simple. When you injure your knee, don’t delay, don’t train through it and certainly don’t just do nothing. Call Chester’s Best Clinic for Knee Pain, Relive Physiotherapy and we will be able to diagnose your issue and give you an idea of the recovery time.

You will be able to take back control from the pain and do the things that the knee pain has stolen from you!
